Pla, a native of Thailand, grew up in Nakorn Ratchasima (“Korat”), the center of the country’s art and music scene. As a young child she was constantly surrounded by Thai artists, whether it was her Grandfather, her older siblings or fellow students. As a student in high school Pla was already working on commissioned art for the province’s numerous Buddhist temples creating sculptures as well as architectural features.
Specializing in statues of the Buddha as well as other religious icons, Pla’s early skills enabled her to get accepted into one of Thailand’s leading art schools, Changsin College, in Bangkok. While at Changsin, as well as later at Suan Sunantha University, Pla began to move her focus more towards Western art, particularly concentrating on the Impressionist painting style of the 19th century.
Shortly after graduating from university with a degree in Art Education, Pla moved to the United States. For the last ten years Pla has lived in both Los Angeles and in Sydney Australia, using her experiences in both locations as the stimulus for her current art work.
In addition to working on her own art, Pla has also worked with renowned artists, including Kent Twitchell, to help restore a number of important murals around the city of Los Angeles.
Pla’s work has its foundation in color and mood. Through the use of vibrant colors to depict moments in time, Pla seeks to relate an emotion inherent in the visual scene. She also seamlessly transitions from one medium to another depending on the mood she is trying to relate and is equally adept at pastel on paper, watercolors, and oil on canvas as well as working in both 2 and 3 dimensions.
Pla currently resides in Los Angeles with her husband and son. Her most recent work can be seen at the Relax Bar on Hollywood Blvd.
